Happy Birthday: Asha Parekh turns 71 today

Yesteryear star Asha Parekh, who once scorched the silver screen with her roles in films like Kati Patang, Teesri Manzil and Love In Tokyo, still has the never-say-die spirit as she turns 71. The actress seems content to stay away from the arc-lights but that has not stopped her from keeping in touch with her pals from the industry and she is a regular on Bollywood's social circuit. She was last spotted at the special screening of the film Phata Poster Nikla Hero with Salman Khan's family and friends in Mumbai last month.

We take a look at the life of this hauntingly beautiful actress who still exudes grace and elegance.

Asha Parekh was one of the reigning stars in the Hindi film industry from 1959 to 1973 and is said to have starred in more hit films than any other actress. She was born into a Gujarati family in Maharashtra and began her career as a child artiste under the screen name Baby Asha Parekh in the film Aasmaan in 1952. Acclaimed filmmaker Bimal Roy saw her performance during a stage show and cast her in the movie Baap Beti (1954) when she was just 12 years old. The film was a flop and Ashaji decided to take a break from the silver screen to resume schooling.

Meet the Dhoom: 3

Team Dhoom: 3 are on fire in the new poster of the film. Aamir Khan, who plays the villain, has pride of place, next to a smouldering Katrina Kaif, his partner in crime. Keeping them company are Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra reprising their roles as Jai Dixit and Ali Khan. The city-scape is dotted with choppers and bikers performing high-flying stunts. Dhoom: 3 promises to provide some high voltage action, if this poster is anything to go by.

The movie is expected to release on December 20 this year.

The brand new poster of the much awaited movie Dhoom 3 is out. The poster features a bare-bodied Aamir Khan looking out over a stormy cityscape from what seems to be a penthouse. Aamir - who is playing a baddie in the movie - seems to be on the run, if the choppers in the poster are anything to go by. From what we have heard, Dhoom 3 starts with the Chicago police on the lookout for a criminal on the run.

The third edition of the Dhoom franchise features Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Uday Chopra in the lead roles. While Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will reportedly reprise their roles as Jai Dixit and Ali Khan, Aamir and Katrina play the villains. The movie is expected to release on Christmas this year.

Bullett Raja: Trailer

The Khans of Bollywood never seem to age! After Salman, SRK and Aamir, it is Saif Ali Khan, who is ruling the roost with action-packed movies. The actor does not look a day older in his latest film, Bullet Raja, which will see him opposite Sonakshi Sinha for the first time. Take a look at the poster and trailer of the upcoming film here.

Bullet Raja is a gangster thriller movie set in Uttar Pradesh. While Saif looks all hunky-dory in the trailer, Sonakshi is (as usual) dressed in traditional outfits. The movie is directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and also stars Jimmy Shergill, Ravi Kishan, Chunky Pandey and Vidyut Jamwal.

The Paan Singh Tomar director had loved Saif’s performance in Omkara, and therefore offered him the role in his latest film. Apart from that, we are very much eager to know if the Saif-Sonakshi chemistry works!

Will Besharam be a Box-Office Hit?

Will Besharam be a Box-Office Hit?

Ranbir Kapoor is enjoying a dream run in his career currently due to the stupendous success of his first release of 2013, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which was preceded by his riveting performance in 2012's masterpiece Barfi. His second offering for the year is Besharam, directed by Abhinav Kashyap, of the Dabangg fame. Pallavi Sharda, who won the Miss India-Australia crown in 2010 has been paired with Ranbir as the lead actress in the film Besharam. The prominet cast of the film also includes the veteran actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, real life parents of Ranbir Kapoor.

In the much awaited movie, Ranbir plays the role of Babli, an orphan who is a car mechanic by profession and doesn't have any qualms in achieving his aims by employing unfair means. In other words, he is a 'besharam' to the core. However, when he realises that there is no right way of doing wrong, he tries to change his life for the better. Clichéd? Maybe, maybe not! It's left to be seen, when Besharam releases nationwide on 2nd October, which, incidentally or intentionally, is a national holiday.

Akshay Kumar: Twinkle Made Me a Righteous Man

When you started your career 25 years ago, did you anticipate this kind of success?
Speaking of a blast from my past, I’m currently shooting in Thailand, where I studied martial arts on the streets of Bangkok. Recently, I took my son (Aarav) and niece to the kitchen I used to work, eat, sleep and train in when I was 17. Just seeing the tiny room where I used to rest my head after a gruelling day of street fighting for extra money brought back so many memories.

I had to fight back the tears in front of my son when I stood in the doorway of the kitchen I once slaved in, wondering how different my life is now. I’m proof that there is nothing more powerful than fate itself, even when the world assumes you’re just an insignificant boy wiping tables and cleaning dishes.

It took a while before the industry and the audiences started taking you seriously as a star...
It may have taken time for people to accept that I was more than just a struggling actor. I was an action hero in the making, a determined young man, with a black belt in karate that technically made the world my oyster. Nothing, not even people’s mighty opinions were going to stand in my way. I wasn’t stupid, I knew I was no Dilip Kumar. I was Akshay Kumar, born with nothing but good parents and God’s hand on my shoulder.

For a long period, you steered clear of big banners. You’ve worked with the maximum number of new directors and producers. Why?
It wasn’t deliberate, I had no choice. When the big banners weren’t interested, I had no other route than to make my own path and create films with people who wanted to make films, not necessarily huge successes. Then as years passed, I stood my ground with the people I consider big in my life and eventually, the big banners came my way. I didn’t refuse them. I wholeheartedly worked for them. But I know if I hadn’t done it my way, I would have hit the highway long ago.

While most actors are doing just one film at a time, you’ve started doing multiple films with at least three-four releases every year. Is that a conscious decision?
Absolutely. I am a man who wants to work as much as I can, who wants to employ as many hard working members of our industry as possible. The more I work, the more people earn from my movies. I don’t want to look back ever and say ‘I could have done more in my career.’ We only have so much time to accomplish our goals. I’m barely half-way through achieving mine.

Do you believe the audience doesn’t give comedy the kind of respect it deserves?
Believe me, the audience by far gives comedians the respect they deserve. It’s the industry and a few critics who don’t give comedy its fair share of limelight. Blockbusters across the country prove time and again how much comedy is loved above all other genres. There is no life without laughter. When judging panels realise that, I’m sure we’ll see a lot more legendary comedians sweeping awards.
